Can somebody help with guitars?

I'm looking at getting getting a guitar, and i've found a reasonably priced behringer, that can plug into a computer via USB, and has 22 frets.
So the questions are...
1. Does it sound okay not plugged into anything?
2. What is the normal amount of frets for a guitar, and how much of a difference does having a lower/higher amount of fret make?
3. Is USB the only way to get it onto a computer or can i use the stereo cable, thing?
4. ( The most important ) Can i edit the sound of my guitar on my computer ( like make it acoustic or Heavy metal ), and if so With what software?
5. Where can i learn to play the guitar online for free?
