Do you think I should teach piano?
I'm 14 & I have been taking lessons for 1.5 years and my teacher says that I advance so fast that I should be thinking about teaching it over the summer. The hardest song I can play is Solfeggietto. I know all of the major scales and chords, most of the minor scales and chords, time signatures, rhytms & beats, and the dynamics. She says she will help me get started teaching to beginners (5-8 year olds that don't even know where middle C is) and I could charge maybe $5 per half hour (The waiting list for piano players in 4 pages long where I take lessons). I work well with kids and I'm pretty good at teaching things, but I don't know how to deal with kids that act up or don't want to sit still. I am also afraid I might teach a kid a wrong technique and keep it stuck in their head. She said she will be willing to help if I wanted to wait another year. I've also take voice lessons for a year and I'm currently teaching myself guitar.
Well quite honestly you being 14 considerably lessens your credibility because 1) most 14 year olds are horribly immature and 2) most 14 year olds who think they're good enough to teach piano really shouldn't even be PLAYING it.
You'll definitely need to learn to deal with kids who act up or are restless because, lets face it, these are 5 to 8 year olds. How many 5 to 8 year olds can sit still when they WANT to, much less when they're being forced to take lessons for something they probably don't even want to be doing.
I would say wait a couple years, when you'll be an even better player and you can offer lessons without parents looking at you and saying "pfft. what are you, an 8th grader?" If you really want to start teaching, I would go for offering lessons to the kids of people you know. That way you can build up a base of credibility with people who are more likely to give you fair chance.
