The Struggle of the Flesh by Rodney Howard Browne
Galatians 5:16-26
One of the most misunderstood ideas in the Christian life is the concept of'the flesh.' what is it? How can we reply to it? Does it refer to just our bodies, or is there a deeper meaning?
Today's passage presents a bold, painfully truthful image of the result of living by the flesh. They include immorality, impurity, idolatry, hate, strife, dissensions, and other destructive results.
by contrast, a life moved and galvanized by the Holy Spirit produces rich, ripe spiritual fruit : love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Which of these two lifestyles sounds more rewarding?
many people desire the higher, spiritually-minded life and yet fall to fleshly sin time upon time. They may cry,'I can't help it! My body is working against me!'
My friend, you must realize that when we talk about'the flesh,' we're not simply talking about your physical body. Rather,'flesh' points toward something deep inside of you, a carry-over from the old life of sin that was replaced by God's Spirit when you became a follower. , your'flesh' refers back to the inherent, residual desire that leads you to act in ungodly ways.
Your flesh can't be improved, disciplined, or modified. Instead, it has to be absolutely replaced by your continual metamorphosis toward Christ-likeness. Ask the Lord every day to make you more like Jesus. As He becomes the bedrock of your life, your eyes will start to move away from yourself and toward your true focus : your heavenly pop.

As He becomes the basis of your life, your eyes will begin to move away from yourself and toward your true focus : your heavenly dad.

Sound on Sound $15.98 Long before making his mark on the independent music scene as a member of Birdsongs of the Mesozoic and involvement with numerous other indie-avant-rock projects and labels, Erik Lindgren was writing and recording his own music as a teenage one-man band of sorts. Sound on Sound rescues 22 songs in 79 minutes-worth of material he recorded in 1973 and 1974, at the ages of 18 and 19, playing almost all of the instruments (though five of the tracks include help from friends on lead guitar and clarinet). From a purely technical standpoint, that's a remarkable achievement, especially considering that Lindgren played all of the keyboards, guitars, bass, percussion, and a bit more, also singing and composing everything (though a couple numbers were written with Eric Van). Judged purely as music, it's less impressive, though its shortcomings are understandable given the performer's youth. He was obviously heavily influenced by Brian Wilson's output in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and much of this has the sort of wistful, fragile, almost bewildered feeling of the work Wilson did in the years immediately following 1967. Other obvious reference points -- they're mentioned in the liner notes, but it's obvious from listening as well -- are the early Pete Townshend solo recordings, Paul McCartney, Todd Rundgren, and Michael Brown of the Left Banke. Lindgren didn't have the melodic brilliance of those composers, though, and as he himself admits in the liner notes, he's "limited as a singer and guitarist," with a high, thin vocal range. Too, these aren't exactly polished recordings, some of the clunky rhythms betraying their origins as one-man overdubs.
